I was part of the 2018 Gold Schools project, run by Goldsmiths’ Widening Participation Team and Department of Educational Studies. Alongside other students on the MA in Creative Writing and Education, I worked with local schools to support students in exploring the places that are important to them through creative writing. We imagined a day in the life of an object from their chosen places, created recipes to change places for the better, and even created poetry mobiles to be hung in the spaces they describe.
The students’ pieces will become part of an anthology of writing by students from all over London, to be launched in October – all welcome. Details here! I worked at Conisborough College and Evelina Hospital School; it was a joy to get to know the students over a series of workshops, and I loved their imaginative and moving work.
